Starting school is such a big milestone and we want to support you with this. At Afon y Felin we place a high importance on a successful transition and engage in lots of different activities to support your child entering into their new school. This can often begin in Flying Start, we love to welcome the pre-schoolers over to the Nursery for mini celebrations such as Sport’s Day and Eisteddfod. Don’t worry if your child does not attend any other settings before joining us, we can arrange visits if you think this would benefit your child. 

Before beginning in the Nursery class you will be contacted by our Nursery teacher: Emma Hughes. You can tell us all about your child and ask any questions you may have. We also organise ‘Stay and Play’ sessions that you can attend with your child to familiarise you and your child with our Nursery environment. 

We like to send postcards to your children after they have visited to help them feel included and excited to start coming to ‘big school!’

You will also receive a Transition pack before starting, this has all our admission forms, photograph permissions, class dojo permission and an ‘All about me’ booklet. It is really beneficial to fill this booklet in as it gives us an insight into how best to interact and support your child with starting school.
